Sun, Sea and Celebrities – A typical holiday to Miami Beach

Miami Beach is synonymous with sun, sea and celebrity. lastminute.com often imagines going down to the sun-baked sands and getting a little crispy with the lucky residents of the most southern Latin city north of Mexico. It’s perfect for everyone who wants traditional fun in the sun with a splash of superstar glamour. It’s a different world down in Florida and you could be experiencing it in less time than you think.

Superstar style at less than you think

You’ll want to hit the beach when you arrive at your Miami Beach holiday. Residents practically live on the sand and you’ll mingle with the famous, the tanned and the ridiculously muscled as they strut, rollerblade and pump iron to their hearts content in the balmy weather. The best times to visit fall between December and May, when temperatures are around 15-30 degrees depending on the month. It is notoriously hot and humid, especially in the summer months, with August being a particularly wet and wild month. If you have small children then it may be a time to avoid. Hurricanes have been known to blow in around these times.

An attraction you’ll definitely want to schedule in when not lounging by the sea is a tour of the impressive art deco district. A large numbers of buildings, including many hotels, were built in this classic style and you’ll soon find your digital cameras whipped out and catching snaps of perfectly preserved architecture. The Wolfsonian museum is a good place to see more examples of cool art deco style and take an aircon break to cool down. And don’t forget the English tradition of checking the gift shop; you’ll want to take back souvenirs for us poor cold people back in the UK.

Another great tour takes you out onto the water, where the welcome ocean breeze will cool you down and give you an eye opening look at the culture of yachts, diamonds and mobsters. That’s right, you’ll sail straight down Millionaire’s row and next to the house where they filmed Scarface and the former home of real life gangster Al Capone.

Where there’s money there’s pampering and great food. A number of spas with cutting edge treatments and relaxation techniques could be just the thing you need when taking a break from the hectic Miami lifestyle. After a sugar scrub or casual spot of botox (they’re all on it out there), you’ll be primped and plush and ready for dinner. The influx of immigrants from Carribean, Latin America, Regular America (octogenarian mainly) and a large Jewish community displaced by the second world war, mean that Miami Beach offers a world of food all in one place. The melting pot of flavours will leave you spoilt for choice and probably a few stones heavier by the end of your trip. Don’t worry though, the famous South Beach diet was developed here, so you can relive holiday memories back in good old England.
