Winter fun on a holiday to Saas Fee
An underground railway takes you to the glacier ski area near the Saas Fee ski resort. This very pretty village surrounded by snow topped mountains lies in the Valous region of the Swiss Alps. The village resort is a great place for families wanting a ski holiday, although Saas Fee won’t disappoint intermediate or advanced skiers, or indeed those more interested in the après ski.
A haven for winter sports in Saas Fee
The high altitude ski resort means there’s excellent snow coverage throughout winter. The resort is also car free and has all the facilities you need right in the village itself. The nursery slopes are next to the village so are ideal for parents wanting to keep an eye on their kids. There are 14 runs suited to intermediates and five black and red runs for advanced skiers. The longest run is a cool 9 kilometres and you can also go cross-country skiing.
When you’re not skiing go wild on the 5 kilometre toboggan run – but be warned, it’s not for the faint hearted. You can also have a go at ice-skating, snowshoeing or go on a winter hike along 30 kilometres of walking trails. A holiday to Saas Fee is popular with snowboarders, unsurprisingly considering there is not one but four snowboarding schools plus a snowboard fun park.
Bielen sports centre has a swimming pool, indoor tennis court and a steam bath and sauna for when you simply want to chill out. There’s also a cinema and plenty of shops in Saas Fee. Head to the Saaser Museum to learn about the history of the area and see the ice pavilion with an exhibition about glaciers inside.
