Discover Son Servera

Son Servera is a town founded in 1300 in the north east of Majorca. Originally in another one of Majorca’s fishing districts, an influx of tourists has brought about a change in the area. The traditional Spanish way of living is still apparent, with its old markets and historic architecture, but these now work alongside activities and amenities such as supermarkets that have been developed to cater for tourists. A holiday to Son Servera is therefore perfect for families as it mixes tradition with practicality.

What you can do on holiday in Son Servera

A good beach is desirable on holiday and there are plenty to choose from on a holiday to Son Servera. Around 3km away is Cala Bona beach which is 550m long, and is still very much a fishing area, where tourists mingle amongst fishermen who are sewing their nets on the beach. In the harbour there is a company that organises diving and snorkelling trips. There are also other beaches too which are easy enough to get to if you hire a car.

If you’re a fan of shopping there are a number of shops to browse and also a shopping centre in the nearby resort of Cala Millor. Every Friday there’s the chance to join the locals and enjoy an outdoor market in Sant Joan Town Square with approximately 200 stalls, selling everything from food to clothing. It’s also a good place to pick up original souvenirs.

The town square is also where you can find Son Servera’s church, and is the main hub of the town where summer fiestas take place, with live music and a buzzing atmosphere. It’s also the location for New Year’s celebrations, with many people travelling from other parts of the island to see in the New Year in the town.

Another church that is a must visit is the breathtaking neo-gothic S'Esgliesia Nova, which is located on Creus Street. The uniqueness of the church is down to its non-existent roof, which was never built due to lack of funds. Being open to the elements, and with its magical gardens lined with palm trees, this is a much loved local treasure and is popular for marriages and general visitors.

In the summer months especially, golfers will love playing in the sunshine at either of the two golf courses; 9-hole Golf Son Servera in Costa de Los Pinos and the 18-hole Pula Golf Course which is said to be the most challenging on the island.
