Relax on in Colonia Sant Jordi

A peaceful and little known getaway in the south of the island of Majorca. With the most beautiful natural beaches on the island nearby, and a laid back, friendly atmosphere, this resort suits families and couples looking for somewhere to get away from it all.

Things to see and do in Colonia Sant Jordi

Colonia Sant Jordi’s beach is small but picturesque, with a fishing harbour and marina at its side. This resort is a perfect base for visiting the idyllic natural beaches of Es Trenc, Es Dolc, Es Carbo and considered the best on the island. Es Dolc is considered the only ‘untouched’ beach on the island, and is the perfect place to go for those looking for an alternative to a commercial Majorcan break. It’s a good idea to hire a car for your holiday, to reach beaches further away and explore the local region.

Enjoy the fabulous coastline by hiring a boat to drive along the coast, while the adventurous can try windsurfing at Es Carbo beach. If you get to the harbour early enough, you can take a short ferry trip to the island of Cabrera which was designated a National Park in 1991. The island has a rich history, once serving as a haven for pirates and serving as a prisoner of war camp during the Napoleonic wars.

For more opportunities to appreciate exotic plant life, visit the Botanicactus gardens at nearby Ses Salines. The largest botanical gardens in Europe, they feature over 1,000 species of plants and the largest navigable lake in Europe.

If you fancy travelling a little further, you could visit the town of Inca with its colourful market, or the pearl factories of Menorca. Take a day trip to the capital city of Palma and wander through the history-rich streets, visit the cathedral and do a spot of shopping.

Spend your evenings relaxing with a bottle of wine and some delicious tapas and fresh seafood at one of the local restaurants and cafes scattered around the beachfront. This is certainly not the place to go for a wild night, but the peacefulness is all part of Colonia Sant Jordi’s charm.
