The Blue Train is an all inclusive luxury rail cruise, showcasing some of South Africas most spectacular scenery, whilst guests are pampered on-board, what has been regularly voted, The Worlds Leading Luxury Train. By day elegant private suites provide generous lounges, changing, as night falls, into subtly lit en-suite bedrooms with butler service. The Blue Train boasts a club car, non-smoking lounge and, at times, an amazing observation car. Dinner is an elegant affair in the dining car, complimented by fine cuisine and award winning South African wine. Getting to the hotel: Johannesburg's International Airports or Tambo International Airport serves.

Local tips: The train travels on selected Mondays and Wednesdays and it is a 27-hour one-way overnight journey. The Southbound (PRY – CTN) off-train excursion is at the Kimberley Hole Diamond mine.

The night preceeding departure at the 131 on Herbert Baker including Breakfast and Transfer from the hotel to the train station is included.

Pretoria to Cape Town Itinerary;

Day 1: 07.30 Register and check in at the Pretoria Station Lounge. Guest board the train and enjoy a pre-departure snacks and drinks. 08.30 The Blue Train departs from Pretoria. 10.30-12.30 First sitting for Brunch. 13.30-14.30 Second sitting fro Brunch. 15.30 High tea is served in the Lounge car. Off the train excursion (weather and time permitting). 17.10 the blue train arrives at Kimberley's station. Guest disembark and assemble at the railway museum from where they will be ushered onto a bus, which transfers them to the Kimberley Open Mine Museum. 17.45 Guests arrive at the Museum for a tour of the mine. Guests will also be taken onto an enclosed ramp on the edge of the Kimberley Hole. 18.35 Guest depart. Arrived at the train station where a glass of cherry is offered. The glass is a memento for them to keep as it has the Blue train logo engraved. 19.05 The train depart Kimberley. Drinks are served in the Lounge. 19.30 Fist diner sitting. 21.15 second diner setting. Please note the gentlemen are requested to wear a jacket and a tie. Ladies elegant evening wear.

Day 2: 07.30-10.00 Breakfast is served. Breakfast can be served in the suite as the guest request. 12.00 The Blue Train arrives at Cape Town.  

  FACILITIES:Food, drink and entertainment: The Dining Car seats 42 people and serves meals in two sittings of fine cuisine and wine from boutique vineyards. The wine list has for a number of years secured the Annual Diner's Club Award of Approval. The Lounge Car: a non-smoking lounge in which to relax and enjoy High Tea and snacks. The Club Car Lounge: the only area where smoking is permitted and a very popular lounge after dinner as Cognac and Cigars are served. The lounge boasts a well-stocked bar, coffee table books, magazines and board games. Dress code on board the blue train is smart-casual during the day but a jacket and tie are compulsory for gentlemen in the evening. Ladies are to dress elegantly for dinner.

Highlights: Breath-taking landscapes, gourmet food & wine, historic and cultural landmarks and social relaxation.

For the kids: Children 5 years and younger sharing a suite with their parents travel free of charge (maximum 2 children per suite). Children have to share beds with parents. Children aged 6 years and older pay full adult rate per person sharing and are accommodated in a separate suite. Children have to be strictly supervised and are not allowed in the club car or lounge, which are licensed to sell alcohol. There are no special children/infant meals available.


Additional: Personal butlers offer 24-hour room service and a GPS system and TV monitor track the train's progress and share the driver's view; a sophisticated suspension system which offers one of the smoothest rides that can be found on any train anywhere in the world and for additional safety, the locomotives have been fitted with a specially designed new braking system.
