To jet-ski or not to jet-ski
In years gone by the Zante resort of Kalamaki used to be a quiet little place to soak up the Grecian sunshine. Now the vibrant town gives neighbouring party town Laganas a run for its money as its nightlife and tourist attractions have begun to multiply. Still much quieter than its rival, Kalamaki has managed to retain a relatively unspoilt beach. The sea is a protected turtle nesting ground so water sports are strictly prohibited. Most holidaymakers see this as an admirable feat of the nature reserve and take part in their sports elsewhere but for some the lack of activity is a deal clincher. Whatever your opinions on the matter, don’t let this completely determine whether or not you stay in Kalamaki because the resort has so much more to offer.
Enjoy the nightlife
The nightlife in Kalamaki may not be quite as crazy as Laganas but it still has plenty to boast about. There is a huge array of bars and nightclubs that will entice you in with their drinks offers and rhythmic music. Bar owners will be out on the street handing your flyers, freebies or simply attempting to pour drinks for you! A smile always goes a long way in Kalamaki, get it right and you can remain Euro flush all week. After a night out in Kalamaki you will definitely be relieved that there are no water sports allowed on the beach, the peace and quiet does wonders for a fuzzy head. For the less clubbing-inclined, there are fantastic restaurants along the main street offering both wonderful examples of the local cuisine and a few home comforts for the fussier eaters.
Sample the rest of Zante
Kalamaki is far from the only place to visit in Zante. If the clubbing isn’t quite hardcore enough, take a trip over to Laganas where the lights are brighter, the music is louder and the drinks are stronger. For a more peaceful day out head to Alykanas and to see a more traditional side of Zante take a trip inland to Lithakia.
