Discover Valmorel
In the heart of the Tarentaise mountain range, Valmorel lies in picturesque surroundings. A hidden treasure of the French Alps, this charming and secluded ski resort is ideal for families and skiers at beginner and intermediate levels.
Valmorel ski resort
Valmorel gives you access to a huge expanse of snow covered slopes and features 165km of pisted runs. It is linked to the St Francois-Longchamp resort and the more traditional villages of Doucy and Les Avanchers, with 300 snowguns ensuring the link stays snow covered throughout the season. The area for skiing and snowboarding is huge, with 167 pistes, 38 lifts and a maximum height of 2550m. Valmorel is very child-friendly, and there are areas specially designed for people of all ages to learn to ski.
With the majority of runs being green, blue and red, more advanced skiers will find the most challenging areas off-piste. Or you might want to take a trip to the black runs of Col du Mottet and the Massif de la Lauziere above Longchamp. Snowboarders have an excellent snowpark to enjoy, featuring a boarder cross and rails to suit all abilities.
As well as skiing and snowboarding, Valmorel offers other exciting activities like rock climbing and glacier trekking. In the summer months, Valmorel has three outdoor swimming pools and opportunities to go canoeing, white water rafting and hiking through the breathtaking countryside.
The centre of the village is car-free and with accommodation right by the slopes, you can ski to your front door. After an exhilarating day, relax in one of Valmorel’s spas among the stone and wood-clad buildings that melt into the chocolate-box landscape.
There a number of grocery shops in Valmorel where you can purchase some local specialities such as cheese and wine. The mountain restaurants are a great place to enjoy a buffet lunch while looking out over the magnificent views, and there are plenty of places to enjoy your evening meal in the village. Whether you’re after some heartening Savoyard food like crepes and omelettes or a laid-back pizzeria, there is a restaurant to suit every budget and taste.
The cafes and bars become lively as soon as the lifts close, and there are plenty of places to warm up with a cocoa or relax with a glass of wine. The nightlife is low-key at Valmorel, but there are cocktail bars open late and a disco for those looking for a dance.
