Schladming holidays

Want an all round ski resort? Then you need Schladming, Austria.

One of the few resorts in Austria that offers a great range of slopes for all abilities, Schladming is a truly great place for a skiing holiday if you’re travelling in a mixed ability group as there will be enough to keep everyone entertained. Schladming also offers great snow coverage and so you will rarely be disappointed with snow conditions on arrival. The town of Schladming is also a great place to visit for its medieval character and charm. A sure hit with tourists, you feel like you’re really escaping when you head for a holiday in Schladming. Two hours from Salzburg airport and you’ll feel like you’re a million miles away from ‘normality’ you left behind, even if it is only for a few days!

How can one place be so suitable for all skiing abilities?

Schladming offers skiers a range of slopes at different levels, for beginners the nursery slopes are well groomed and maintained and the excellent ski school will get anyone off to a good start on skis or snowboards. Intermediate skiers can enjoy over 170km of pistes, with a mix of long and short runs to mix up the day. Advanced, or pro skiers can take to the world-class downhill slopes which are 5km each, alternatively the black runs that Schladming has to offer are quite bumpy so require a lot of skill and faultless technique.

If regular slopes are not enough then you can always head over to the Dachstein glacier, just a 20 minute ski bus journey away, where you are guaranteed good snow coverage and a different type of terrain. Snowboarders can enjoy a trip to Schladming as well, all slopes are just as suited to snowboarders as to skiers and there is also three snow parks to choose from. One of which is right in the heart of the resort on the Planai.

What to expect of an evening in Schladming.

In the centre of Schladming there is the main square which plays host to most of the Après ski activities, and has recently been made pedestrianised, making a friendly and safe environment to socalise in. There is also a selection of shops which open later, giving visitors the chance to browse in the evenings so that you don’t waste any time away from the slopes. The range of restaurants and eateries is good enough to cater for all tastes, and you can enjoy a drink in the evening in either one of the more lively bars, or cosier pubs. If you’re looking for somewhere to carry on the party, there are two ‘discos’ in the main town which are quite popular.

On the whole Schladming is the holiday destination if you’re looking for a versatile resort that has something for everyone. There are slopes on your doorstep but plenty more options a short bus drive away.
